Timeline

Autumn 2019 – Spring 2020

Overview

We will create online study material for a voluntary chemistry course. The theory content will be partly interactive and integrated into MyCourses.

Problem-solving question bank is expanded from the currently existing one to enable true randomising of the questions and supports individual learning.

Short videos will mainly concentrate on the writing of chemical reactions and their utilization in problem solving (exercises).

All tasks are (automatically) assessed by the Moodle system (MyCourses).

The ultimate goal is that the students can take this chemistry course at any time of the year, which ever suits them best. Electronic exams in aquariums are applied if their capacity is found to be reasonable in the future. In practice the e-exam should work if students start to take the course throughout the year instead of just one period (the course has had ca. 400 students).

Platforms and tools

Mainly Moodle (MyCourses). The idea is not to mix additional platforms, only the tools MyCourses offers to keep matters simple for students.

Pedagogical methods

In pedagocial terms, the course contains blended learning, e.g. flipping and online self-assessment. Contact sessions can thus focus on student support, and introducing applications not so easy to understand individually (at a basic level).

Involved courses

CHEM-1250 – Principles of Chemistry (5 ECTS)
