Overview

The pilot is investigating online methods and tools to support more flexible examination in courses. While there are earlier trials on computer-based on-site exams that model the approach of traditional exams, but with online text editor instead of pen and paper, our focus is to investigate more versatile methods for online learning certification, leveraging the various software tools computer systems and the Internet can provide today. A particular focus in this pilot is on location-independent learning certification (e.g., home exams) based on students’ own laptops, given the forced constraints caused by the ongoing pandemic. One research question is, how to make the certification reliable against cheating even to small extent, when we cannot control the physical space, and use of camera and other monitoring devices has privacy challenges. One possible approach is to record the exam progress at detailed level, using a tailored (operating) system developed in this and earlier pilots.

Platforms and tools

This pilot is based on earlier developed examination software, together with existing online learning assessment tools (TIM, A+, MyCourses, etc.).
