Overview

The pilot aims to activate and support the English of lower intermediate level students and act as a springboard for participation in the B2 level English courses offered by the Language Centre. With the help of teaching videos, quizzes, forum tasks and games, the participants will improve their ability to deliver presentations on topics within their discipline, present and challenge oral arguments, interact effectively in social situations, and produce fluent text conforming to the conventions of academic writing.

Pedagogical methods

The online resources are deployed in as student-centred a manner as possible. Thus, the students participate in numerous online forum activities involving peer-review of each other’s work. These forum activities are preceded by various quizzes on the MyCourses platform.

In the Speaking and Listening course, the students make use of PanOpto both to record and upload presentations and also as a file-sharing platform to distribute recorded video conversations. Since the pilot was run, Zoom has been integrated into MyCourses. This will be used in the upcoming iteration of the course.
